American Revolution 240th Celebrations

Special celebrations will be held in 2017 to commemorate the 240th anniversary of the various battles of the American Revolution. Check below for the events that are on the calendar or contact your local park to see if there's a special event there. We'll strive to keep you up to date when announcements come into focus. Throughout 2017, the American Revolution will be celebrated for that two hundreds and forty years of United States history from Princeton to Valley Forge, many in state parks. Take the time to visit this history at anniversary events of living history and battle walks at the places where they happened.

    May to August


    June 26, 1777 - Battle of Metuchen Meetinghouse (Short Hills), New Jersey
    Celebration Dates/Times: June 23, 6:30 p.m., June 24, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and to June 25, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

    July 7, 1777 - Battle of Hubbardton, Vermont

    August 2-22, 1777 - Siege of Fort Stanwix (Fort Schuyler), New York
    Celebration Dates/Times: August 3, August 6, August 19-20, August 23.
    Location: August 3, 6, 19, 20, 23 (Fort Stanwix).
    Event: Siege of Fort Stanwix Begins daily events on August 3.

    Willett's Sortie daily events on August 6.
    10:45 am: The Message - Discover how the arival of General Herkimer's three messengers helped to save lives, & led to a major blow to Fort Stanwix's enemy attackers.

    2:45 pm: Willett's Sortie - Become one of the 250 soldeirs that particpated in the sortie that saved Herkimer's militia, destroyed the American Indian & loyalist allies' camp, & retrieved much needed supplies for the besieged garison of Fort Stanwix.

    Futile Thunder Encampment Weekend on August 19-20. Saturday 9:00 am to 4:30 pm; Sunday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

    Flag Ceremony, the Siege Ends activities on August 23. Program throughout the day focuses on the British retreating, but not surrending.

    August 6, 1777 - Battle of Oriskany, New York
    Celebration Dates/Times: August 6, 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.
    Location: Oriskany Battlefield State Historic Site, 7801 New York 69, Oriskany, NY 13424.
