  • Cabrillo 100th Events

    Cabrillo National Park will be finalizing their 2016 events soon. For now, there are a number of 2016 events on the calendar that may be considered part of the National Park Service's 100th Anniversary celebrations. Stop back for more info on time and place when they become available.


    2016 Events

    Whale Watch Weekend and Intertidal Life Festival

    Date/Time: February 20-21, 10:00 am to 4:30 pm.
    Location: Cabrillo National Monument Visitor Center.
    Event: 29th annual Whale Watch Weekend and Intertidal Life Festival at Cabrillo National Monument. Join us for this monumental occasion! Whale Watch Weekend is a chance for Cabrillo National Monument to invite the San Diego community to the park and encourage them to learn about the importance of protecting our oceans.


    Lighthouse Open Tower Days

    Date/Time: March 22, November 15, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm
    Location: Cabrillo National Monument.
    Event: Celebrate the anniversary of the lighting of the historic Old Point Loma Lighthouse at Cabrillo National Monument. This is one of just three days out of the year that the lantern and balcony of the lighthouse is open to the public. Rangers and park volunteers will be on hand in 1880's attire to entertain and educate.


    National Parks Week

    Date/Time: April 16-24
    Location: Cabrillo National Monument.
    Event: Week of activities celebrating our National Parks.


    Founder's Day

    Date/Time: August 25-28, 10:00 am to 3:30 pm.
    Location: Cabrillo National Monument.
    Event: Celebrate the anniversary of the establishment of the National Park Service at Cabrillo National Monument, San Diego's National Park. Visitors are encouraged to participate in ranger-led walks and talks, attend park films, and complete the park's Junior Ranger program. This is one of only three days out of the year that the lantern and balcony of the Old Point Loma Lighthouse is open to the public.


    Cabrillo Festival

    Date/Time: September 24/5, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
    Location: Ballast Point, Naval Base Point Loma.
    Event: Celebrate the voyage of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, the first European explorer to sail up the west coast of present-day United States, in 1542. There will be music, dancing, children's activities, foods of Native Americans, Mexico, Portugal, and Spain. A re-enactment of Cabrillo's landing at Ballast Point begins at 1:00PM.


    National Public Lands Day

    Date/Time: September 24, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
    Location: Cabrillo National Monument.
    Event: The National Park Service and the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America's national parks, celebrate the annual volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands. Cabrillo National Monument invites visitors to go for a hike or relax here in observance of this day.
