Gila Cliff Dwellings 100th Events
Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monuments has a number of 2016 events on the calendar that they consider part of the National Park Service's 100th Anniversary celebrations. Stop back for more info when they become available.
South Mesa Rim Hike
Date/Time: July 2, August 6, Time: TBD.
Location: Woody's Corral Trailhead.
Event: A four hour Ranger led wilderness hike to the south mesa of Cliff Dweller canyon. This hike will take you to one of the classic photo sites across the canyon from the Cliff Dwellings.
Moonlight Tour of the Cliff Dwellings
Date/Time: June 19, July 19, August 19, Time: TBD.
Location: Cliff Dwellings Trailhead.
Event: Hike is at night-although it is during a full moon, and portions of the trail will be illuminated, it will be dark at times. Wear sturdy shoes. Bring no food (as usual, but do bring water). Flashlights are optional , but must be dimmed to protect night vision (red cellophane will be provided). This is a unique opportunity to visit and photograph the Dwellings at night-Dwellings will be partially illuminated. Please be advised that a 2 hour late night drive will be necessary to get back to Silver City after the program, so most may prefer to camp at one of the four US Forest Service Campgrounds nearby.
