American Revolution 240th Celebrations

Special celebrations will be held in 2020 to commemorate the 240th anniversary of the various battles of the American Revolution. Check below for the events that are on the calendar or contact your local park to see if there's a special event there. We'll strive to keep you up to date when announcements come into focus. Throughout 2020, the American Revolution will be celebrated for that two hundred and forty years of United States history from South Carolina and Florida to New York and New Jersey, many in state parks. Take the time to visit this history at anniversary events of living history and battle walks at the places where they happened.

    January to December 1780


    February 3, 1780 - Battle of Young's House, New York
    Celebration Dates/Times: Not available.
    Location: Not available.
    Event: No known event at this time, although information may be able to be gotten at the Westchester County Historical Society at a later date.

    March 2-14, 1780 - Battle of Fort Charlotte, West Florida (Alabama)
    Celebration Dates/Times: No Special Event Planned.
    Location: 150 S. Royal St. Mobile, Alabama 36602.
    Event: While there is no special event planned, a reconstructed fort, known as Fort Conde, or the Colonial Fort of Mobile, can be visited five days a week. For more info, visit The Colonial Fort of Mobile

    March 29 to May 12, 1780 - Siege of Charleston, South Carolina
    Celebration Dates/Times: March 28-March 29, 2020, 9 a.m. to 4.p.m.
    Location: Mullet Hall Equestrian Center, 2662 Mullet Hall Rd, Johns Island, South Carolina 29455.
    Event: Large scale two day reenactment and living history encampment regarding the Siege of Charles Town. For more info, check out their Facebook Page. For other events about the siege, stay in touch with the Events Page of the Charleston Museum.

    May 29, 1780 - Battle of Waxhaws, South Carolina
    Celebration Dates/Times: May 23, 2020, 10:30 a.m.
    Location: Buford Battleground County Park, 262 Rocky River Road, Lancaster, South Carolina.
    Event: 240th Anniversary of the Battle of Waxhaws. Additional info, although not currently listed, could be received from the Lancaster City webpage..

    June 7, 1780 - Battle of Connecticut Farms, New Jersey
    Celebration Dates/Times: Not available.
    Location: Not available.
    Event: Not available.

    June 20, 1780 - Battle of Ramsour's Mill, North Carolina
    Celebration Dates/Times: Dates Not Yet Announced, Likely the Weekend of June 6-7, 2020.
    Location: Ramsour's Mill Battleground Park, 301 Jeb Seagle Drive, Lincolnton, North Carolina 28092.
    Event: For more info, check out the Facebook Page of the Lincoln County Historical Association who run the annual reenactment event.

    June 23, 1780 - Battle of Springfield, New Jersey
    Celebration Dates/Times: Not available. Weekend of June 27-28 likely or June 20-21.
    Location: Last year's event was held in Meisel Park, 278 Meisel Ave, Springfield Township, NJ 07081.
    Event: Unknown yet. The organizers of last year's event is Third New Jersey Regiment.



    July 20-21, 1780 - Battle of Bull's Ferry, New Jersey
    Celebration Dates/Times: Unknown
    Location: Unknown
    Event: Unknown

    August 6, 1780 - Battle of Hanging Rock, South Carolina
    Celebration Dates/Times: Unknown
    Location: Battle of Hanging Rock Historic Site, Flat Rock Rd, Heath Springs, SC 29058.
    Event: Previous events about the battle have been coordinated with Lancaster City, located nine miles south of the Battlefield.

    August 8, 1780 - Battle of Piqua, Ohio
    Celebration Dates/Times: Part of the Fair at New Boston held annually on the Labor Day Weekend.
    Location: Shawnee Village Piqua and Battlefield and the Davidson Interpretive Center tell the story of the battle year round. It is located at 5638 Lower Valley Pike, Springfield Ohio.
    Event: Check with the Davidson Interpretive Center for more details.

    August 16, 1780 - Battle of Camden, South Carolina
    Celebration Dates/Times: Not available.
    Location: Camden Battlefield and Longleaf Pine Preserve, Flat Rock Road (S-28-58) 5 miles north of Camden, South Carolina.
    Event: Not yet available.

    August 18, 1780 - Battle of Fishing Creek, South Carolina
    Celebration Dates/Times: Not available.
    Location: Not available.
    Event: Not available.

    October 7, 1780 - Battle of Kings Mountain, South Carolina
    Celebration Dates/Times: Weekend before or after battle date, and also October 7, 1790. Exact dates not yet available.
    Location: Kings Mountain National Military Park.
    Event: Details of the 2020 event are not yet posted, but the annual event, held on the anniversary weekend and day of the battle includes living history, an encampment, lantern tours, and more. More more updates as they come, visit Kings Mountain National Military Park Facebook Events page.

    November 20, 1780 - Battle of Blackstock's Farm, South Carolina
    Celebration Dates/Times: Not available. Possible Saturday November 20, 2020.
    Location: Battle of Blackstock's Historic Site, Union County, Cross Anchor, off South Carolina Highway 49.
    Event: Annual event with commemoration and battle hike. Blackstock Battlefield is managed by the Battle of Musgrove Mill State Historic Site which may have more info on the event at a later date.
