National Park Service 100th Anniversary

  • Hot Springs 100th Events

    Hot Springs National Park will be finalizing their 2016 events soon. For now, there are a number of 2016 events on the calendar that are considered part of the National Park Service's 100th Anniversary celebrations. Stop back for more info on time and place when they become available.

    2016 Events

    Wake up Trails, Wake up!

    Date/Time: March 28, Time TBD.
    Location: Hot Springs National Park.
    Event: Join park staff and volunteers to wake up the park's trails after a long winter's slumber. Park staff and volunteers will provide insights about the park and its trails, and fun activities while the trails are raked, encroaching bushes and trees pruned, and signs replaced, and trail blazes freshened.

    National Junior Ranger Day

    Date/Time: April 16, Events throughout the day.
    Location: Hot Springs National Park.
    Event: Junior Rangers join park staff and volunteers for a series of activities throughout the day. Activities include hiking, testing the thermal water, removing exotic invasive plant species, fun, games, and more.

    Iron Ranger Challenge

    Date/Time: 1st Saturday of Every Month, Dates/Times Upcoming.
    Location: Hot Springs National Park.
    Event: Start the month with a Morning Recreation Hike of four to five miles. This Statewide Outreach is in collaboration with other Arkansas NPS units and their partners to host Centennial activities throughout Arkansas. Arkansas parks and partners will shine a spotlight on all our parks.

    Second Saturday Trail Recreation Hikes

    Date/Time: Second Saturdays April to November, Times TBD.
    Location: Hot Springs National Park.
    Event: Looking to learn how to hike? Join park staff and volunteers the second Saturday of each month for a morning recreation hike. This program is designed for people wanting to learn how to hike; experienced hikers are welcomed too. Starting with a program about hiking and short hike, the hikes will gradually be lengthened and become more difficult to build your hiking endurance and confidence.

    Third Saturday Campground Evening Fun

    Date/Time: Third Saturdays March to November, Times TBD.
    Location: Gulpha Gorge Campground.
    Event: Join park staff, volunteers, and invited speakers for an evening program on how to camp, exploring the night sky, nighttime wildlife, and more.

    Morning Tea at the Jug

    Date/Time: Fourth Saturdays March to November, 10:00-11:00 am.
    Location: Reserve Tea Fountain, Park Administration Building.
    Event: Join park staff the fourth Saturday for tea and coffee made with thermal water, and explore the stories of the park.

    National Park Week

    Date/Time: April 18-26.
    Location: Hot Springs National Park.
    Event: Special Events throughout the Week.


    Date/Time: May 20-21.
    Location: Hot Springs National Park.
    Event: Join park staff and experts in the field to find and learn about the park's fungi and reptiles or join one of the programs about fungi and reptiles along bathhouse row. This BioBlitz will expand the park's and your knowledge about the natural environment at Hot Springs.

    Family Fun Walk on the Whittington Valley Trail

    Date/Time: October 22.
    Location: Hot Springs National Park, Whittington Park.
    Event: join park staff for a fun morning walk around the Whittington Park. Games, activities and activities will be available for people walking the trail.
