Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserved has begun to announce some of its 2016 events, some of which will be considered part of the National Park Service's 100th Anniversary celebrations. Stop back for more info on time and place when they become available.
2016 Events
Cajun Music Jam
Date/Time: Mondays January 25 to March 28, except February 8, 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
Location: Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center, Thibodaux.
Event: Discover the music of Louisiana's wetlands with free jam sessions featuring local musicians. Bring your instrument and learn some new tunes or just sit back and enjoy.
Battle of New Orleans Talk
Date/Time: Tuesday-Saturday, January 22 to March 31, Time 10:45 am and 2:45 pm.
Location: Chalmette Battlefield, Chalmette.
Event: Hear the story of the Battle of New Orleans on the very ground where American troops defeated the mighty British army in 1815.
Historic Thibodaux Walking Tour
Date/Time: Tuesday-Thursday January 26 to March 31, Time 2:00 to 3:00 pm.
Location: Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center, Thibodaux.
Event: Join a National Park Service ranger for a one-hour walking tour of historic Thibodaux.
Ranger's Choice Program
Date/Time: Tuesday to Thursday, January 22 to March 31, May 20-21, Time 2:45 to 3:15 pm.
Location: Acadian Cultural Center, Lafayette.
Event: Ranger talks on various topics.
Riverfront History Stroll
Tuesday-Saturday, January 22 to March 31, Time 9:30 to 10:30 am.
Location: French Quarter Visitor Center, New Orleans.
Event: Walk along the Mississippi River levee and get an overview of New Orleans history.
Wetlands Walk
Date/Time: Thursday to Sunday, January 22 to March 31, Time 10:00 am.
Location: Barataria Preserve, Marrero.
Event: Explore wild Louisiana on a ranger-guided walk.
Nature Photography Walk
Date/Time: February 13, 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Location: Barataria Preserve, Marrero.
Event: If your pictures never quite capture the beauty of the scenes before you, Mike Murphree's nature photography walk may have the answer to better photography, whether you use an expensive camera, a cell phone, or a point-and-shoot for your photos. Space is limited so reservations are required; call 504-689-3690 ext. 10.
