Olympic National Park

    Olympic National Park has announced some of their 2016 events soon that are considered part of the National Park Service's 100th Anniversary celebrations. Stop back for more info on time and place when they become available.

    2016 Events

    Perspectives Talk: Interpreting National Parks in Words and Photographs

    Date/Time: March 8, Time TDB.
    Location: Olympic National Park Visitor Center.
    Event: Tim McNulty, Poet and Author & Pat O'Hara, Photographer Art, photography, and inspirational writing have been essential to the preservation and enjoyment of national parks and the national park idea.

    Perspectives Talk: Science, Technology and Salmon in Olympic National Park

    Date/Time: April 12; Time TBD.
    Location: Olympic National Park Visitor Center.
    Event: Sam Brenkman, Fisheries Biologist, Olympic National Park Explore some of the innovative technologies used to reveal the distribution, abundance, and migrations of salmonids in Olympic Peninsula rivers.

    National Junior Ranger Day

    Date/Time: April 16; 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
    Location: Olympic National Park Visitor Center.
    Event: Celebrate National Parks, Junior Rangers, and the 100th Year of the National Park Service! Hike and explore the forest with park rangers. Create a craft project to take home. Examine the microscopic world of plants and insects. Go on a scavenger hunt. Meet with the Back Country Horsemen and learn how to safely share the trails with pack stock. Earn a National Junior Ranger day award.

    Washington Coast Cleanup

    Date/Time: April 23; Time TBD.
    Location: Coastal Beaches.
    Event: Hundreds of volunteers take to the beaches of Washington State, including Olympic NP, to remove and dispose of marine debris. This event began as a park event and has expanded over time to include nearly all of the state's Pacific Coast.

    North Coast Cascades Network (NCCN) Spotlight BioBlitz

    Date/Time: May 20, 21; Time TBD.
    Location: Olympic National Park.
    Event: Olympic is one of eight parks participating in the NCCN BioBlitz. Scientists, students and the public will be invited to help document the biodiversity of Olympic National Park and will share their findings with the NPS Centennial BioBlitz on the National Mall in Washington, DC.

    Music in the American Wild

    Date/Time: August 15-18; Time TBD.
    Location: Various, Olympic National Park.
    Event: Led by flutist Emlyn Johnson, a seven-person orchestra will perform original music especially commissioned to celebrate the NPS Centennial. Residency will include 2-3 outdoor concerts in the park, visiting and area public invited to these free events.

    International Coast Cleanup

    Date/Time: September 17; Time TBD.
    Location: Coastal Beaches.
    Event: Volunteer event along Olympics' coastal beaches to remove and dispose of marine debris.

    National Public Lands Day & Healthy Parks, Healthy Communities Day

    Date/Time: September 24; Time TBD.
    Location: Olympic National Park.
    Event: Health and wellness themed events presented by NPS and partner groups will take place in several park areas and will include ranger-guided and self-guided hikes, obstacle courses, outdoor exercises, etc.
